Facebook is the less reliable social network

Facebook

Facebook is the less reliable social network compared with all the main social networks about the safeguard of their datas and of their privacy. Only the 22% of the americans claimed to calmly give to Facebook their personal informations, much less then Amazon (49%), Google (41%), Microsoft (40%) and Apple (39%).

The two most serious attacks to the privacy

In April of 2018, the CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg recognised that a hacker was able to improperly access to the datas of some users and then he sold them. The number of damaged peoples reaches the 87 millions.

The datas were sold to an english policy consultancy’s society: Cambridge Analytica. In September of the same year, Facebook assumed another hacking of the personal datas, this time to the disadvantage of 30 millions of users. The obejct of the theft, in this case, were the email addresses and the telephone’s numbers.

Control of the fake contents

If this isn’t enough, Facebook wasn’t able to avoid that the russian law enforcement spreaded fake news. This happened to the disadvantage of the american policy during the period of the american presidential election of the last 2016.

Even though the company increased the number of their employees to try to combat those errors in the privacy and in the control of the published posts, no results was reached yet. We have to say that Facebook is investing many money, in the last period, in the development of a technology that can recognise and negatively mark the not valid posts automatically.

By the way, the disinformation goes on to command in the social networks.

Implications on the numbers of users

Too much at stake for Facebook. The users daily active in the United States and in Canada remained in the last year at 185 millions.

It isn’t clear if this is due to the worries for the privacy or to the fact that a huge slice of population already have Facebook and, so, the inscriptions can further increase. For this ambiguity, infact, Facebook ignored the survey.

Surveis about it

In the attempt to determinate which was the impact of those events on the Facebook’s images, Mark Zuckerberg commissioned Harris Poll to make a survey on 2.000 adults in the United States of America.

The survey took place in the middle of October of the 2018 and the results shown that the pubblic perception of Facebook crashed. The 48% of the interviewed said to see much more negatively Facebook compared with six months before, belittling the 17% that said to feel more positively.

Analysis of the results

This higher negatively is from three to eight times higher compared with the other biggest technologic companies that deal with the privacy of the users’ datas. For example, only the 7% of the interviewed claimed to feel more negatively with Microsoft, while the 28% had a more positive view.

Amazon had the biggest result between the companies about the perception of the customers..

Only the 10% of the interviewed felt more safety about the society in the last six months, against the 39% which had a more positive view.

“The result of this survey would be a C or a D in the primary schools”

Said John Gerzema, CEO of Harris Poll, about the company of Mark Zuckerberg. The giant of the social network could have some difficulties to earn again the public’s trust because of his repetitive problems.

The customers are more inclined to “forgive” a company if they realize that the problem happened only sporadically, and not again and again like happened in the case of Facebook.

So, because of the repetitive attacks to the privacy, the public is still not forgiving. This is bringing, inevitably, to a users’ grow for the other main social networks.
