Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the remake of the 2013 game, has been a spectacular success, selling over three million copies in a week and peaking at 100,000 concurrent Steam players.

Thirteen years ago, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, the series’ last numbered instalment, the fourth, was released.
Initially it faced harsh criticism. Its tropical setting, seafaring mechanics and protagonist—who, let’s be honest, was not a real assassin—put many people off.
Yet it did not take long for one of the most criticised entries to become one of the most beloved!
What changed? Fans initially saw it as a “betrayal of the faith”: Edward Kenway was an opportunistic pirate, not an assassin by vocation. But several elements won over even sceptics, foremost the protagonist’s overwhelming charisma. The tropical setting, free exploration and variety of side content also captivated players.
All this convinced not only fans but Ubisoft itself, which, facing difficulties thirteen years later, decided to bet on that pirate adventure again.
The remake

And so, thirteen years later, fans of this beloved saga once again sailed the Caribbean.
The remake’s most obvious intention is to bring Black Flag as close as possible to modern Assassin’s Creed games.
It remains very similar to the original, with a few significant modern additions.
What is new?
Among the most noticeable changes are underwater swimming sections with much greater depth than the original. A welcome addition, since exploring the sea is fundamental to this game.
Combat has also improved. The new mechanics focus on timing responses and parries. The system is more dynamic and engaging, while still fairly easy to control.
Some other changes are simply treats for devoted fans, such as freely putting the hood on or taking it off.
Finally, there is an entirely new final chapter and new endgame activities.

We can only agree with Ubisoft’s decision to put its weight behind this remake. Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced has indeed been a genuine success!
The numbers keep climbing, but the milestone that immediately drew attention was over three million copies sold during launch week.
The game launched on 9 July 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Alongside its sales record, it peaked at 100,000 concurrent Steam players and reached first place on Twitch.
