Persona 4 Revival will arrive in February 2027, and excitement is reaching fever pitch now that the upcoming JRPG has received an age rating. Following its very welcome appearance during June 2026’s Xbox Games Showcase livestream, part of the packed Summer Game Fest 2026 programme, the trailer’s final moments finally confirmed a release date. After Golden came to Steam and consoles a few years ago, it is fantastic to see one of the best JRPGs follow Persona 3 Reloaded’s example with a remake.
Persona 4 Revival: what we know
Persona 4 Revival releases on 18 February 2027. After extensive speculation about its release date, Atlus confirmed that we will return to the Midnight Channel in 2027, revealing a February release at the end of a new trailer shown during the event. The game is scheduled for Xbox Series X/S, PC and PS5.
There is a reasonable chance the game will also reach Switch 2 eventually, although this is unconfirmed. The good news is that Persona 3 Reloaded is officially on the list of Switch 2 games coming out this year. Persona 3 Reloaded is another remake, and with Persona 4 Golden having come to Switch in 2023 and Persona 5 Royal in 2022, we bet Nintendo will make an announcement soon.

What is the game about?
If you do not know Persona 4 or what to expect from the remake, let us explain. The game is a dungeon-crawling JRPG with slice-of-life anime elements, much like the rest of the Persona series and Metaphor: Refantazio. You might be exploring a dungeon one moment and heading off on a school trip to eat your friends’ inedible cooking the next. The core gameplay revolves around exploring the Midnight Channel, a dimension accessed by stepping into a television, with the aim of stopping a series of murders.
The premise may sound rather dark, but it sits within such a delightful world, populated by wonderful characters, that it shines with youthful energy, making the experience feel like an endless summer, just as it did when you were sixteen. The game spans the school year, with warmer months bringing blue skies that make you crave a bottle of Ramune. Even rainy days and grey months cannot diminish its charm. It is an intoxicating mixture that only Atlus can create with such mastery.

Let’s talk gameplay
We have not yet had a detailed look at the gameplay of Persona 4 Revival, since the teaser offers only brief glimpses. Judging from the trailer, the game uses a more traditional third-person perspective, similar to Metaphor: Refantazio, rather than the fixed view used by the original Persona 4 for exploration outside dungeons.
It is safe to say that, apart from this, the core gameplay will remain substantially similar to the original. If the changes resemble those Persona 3 Reload made to Persona 3, they will be fairly minor and mainly focus on quality-of-life improvements. Perhaps we will see new spells, the return of Theurgy, or Link Episodes.
The original voice actors from Persona 4 and Golden have discussed not being invited to take part in the remake. This suggests either an entirely new voice cast and new dialogue, as in Reload, or reuse of the original lines, perhaps after remastering.

Persona 4 Revival trivia
The existence of a Persona 4 remake has seemed like gaming’s worst-kept secret for some time. Not only have voice actors said they were not contacted about returning, but we also saw the p4re.jp domain registered in March, mirroring Persona 3 Reload’s official Japanese website, p3re.jp. Apparently, this is indeed Persona 4 Revival’s official Japanese website.
In 2022, Atlus surveyed consumers about their most-wanted remakes, and Persona 3 ranked first. We did indeed get the Persona 3 remake, and now we are preparing for the fourth most anticipated remake: Persona 4 Revival.
