Over the past few days, there has been plenty of talk about Cupertino’s latest arrival: the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable.

The launch of the iPhone Duo
“iPhone Duo has arrived: the first foldable iPhone. Unfolded, it is the thinnest iPhone with the largest display ever: 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The outer screen, meanwhile, offers a viewing area equivalent to more than 90% of that of the iPhone 18 Pro. And with iOS specially redesigned, you get unmatched versatility in both form and function. All in a robust, ultraportable design. It is an iPhone unlike any other.”
iPhone Duo was unveiled alongside Apple’s new lineup in September, together with the iPhone 18 models. It is Apple’s first foldable smartphone, combining the portability of a conventional smartphone with the experience of a tablet.
Preorders will open on 16 October 2026, with in-store availability beginning on 23 October. This is a high-end model, not aimed at the average consumer, although Cupertino’s new releases have always started at a decidedly premium price point.
The models coming to market start at €2,368 for 256 GB, followed by €2,619 for 512 GB and €3,119 for 1 TB, rising to €3,869 for the 2 TB model.
Display and design
Apple’s first foldable comes with a grade 5 titanium body in Stellar White and Night Sky. It weighs 254 g and carries IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Unfolded, the iPhone Duo is just 5.2 mm thick: the thinnest iPhone ever!
The outer display is a 5.4-inch OLED, while unfolding the device reveals a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display.
The inner screen comprises 10 ultrathin layers, with a nanotexture designed to minimise reflections, 3,000 nits of peak brightness and an uninterrupted viewing surface.
iOS redesigned specifically for the iPhone Duo
iOS has been specially redesigned for the foldable. You can switch between screens and from portrait to landscape orientation, or back again, in an instant.
This new iPhone puts you in control: you can choose the inner or outer screen, adjust the angle to watch films and TV series, change perspective, or rest it on its edges to make calls and video calls comfortably.
iOS 27 also completely reorganises the interface, placing the dock and controls along the sides. It supports Split View, allowing two apps to sit side by side, as well as tent-style Stand By mode.
Cameras
The camera setup includes a 48 MP Fusion main camera, a 48 MP Fusion ultra-wide camera and a 12 MP Center Stage front camera.
The FaceTime camera is hidden behind the screen. A range of features also helps you perfect your photos and videos. Features such as Duo Preview and animations for children help bring out the best in your subjects, while Smart Shot lets you join your own photos.
iPhone Duo: other technical specifications
Inside Apple’s first foldable is an A20 Pro chip with two 16-core Neural Engines, designed specifically for the most demanding AI projects. The vapour-chamber thermal management system also ensures consistently optimal performance.
iPhone Duo features a dual-battery system, delivering up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display.
